-The Tempest
Salam.
"Uncle,mintak rokok satu kotak,"
"Sakit apa mau?" (regarding to the picture behind the pack)
"Erk..?"
***
Should have been a different reply,I suppose?
So I sat facing the street,my uncle and cousin both facing each other in the middle of a debate. It was about the habit of smoking,by the way.
My uncle,a non-smoker and his opposition,a smoker of course,an observer and a cameraman. Em,girl. Complete corum?
Yeah!
note: Malay Language, more specifically middle Perak accent used.
Ibu: Gambo ape lagi nak kene letak blkg kotak rokok supaye budak2 ni x beli dah rokok? Macam mane kalau dalam sepluh taun lagi masa yang patutnye Wan gembira dapat orang baru (a newborn baby) dalam idup Wan,Wan kesai mnyebabkan die lahir dgn jantung yg rosak?
Pejai: *silent*
Achik: Ape je yg kome dapat beli rokok tiap2 bulan? Ce kamu kire, seminggu brape kamu abih beli rokok?
Pejai: Tengok rokok le. Mase dulu lime rengget sekotak.
Achik: Lime rengget kali 30 ari? Dah seratuih lime puloh. Kerajaan letak gambo macam2 bukan kome takut pun, beli juge.
Ibu: Letak gambo batu nesan.
Achik: Kerajaan naikkan rege, kome beli juge. Kamu pikir ye,kerajaan rogi ke macam tu? Kome le yang rogi..!
Pejai: Kalau mcm tu patut haramkan je le kemasukan rokok!
Me: Abih tu kalau kerajaan haramkan rokok kamu nak hisap ape?
Pejai: Cerut.
Me: Wahaha! Baik takyah,serope je!
Pejai: *Smiles innocently*
(Sniff2. Ade bau kekalahan dekat2 Pejai. Hahaha!)

I put the end here. Let's go through it one by one, shall we?
1. The government has made an effort through the mass media by providing informations about potential diseases of smoking, plus gigantic billboards near school gates and roadsides with massive scarlet prints of 'TAK NAK!'.
-Then it's up to the buyers to decide for themselves, isn't it?
But statistics showed that the campaign failed to reach the hearts of young beginners, let alone common patrons. The failure,to me,isn't totally the government's fault by the way.
-Why is it then?
2.Now they have gone a step farther by creating a lively drama of a nurse who frequents patients with diseases as a result of smoking (the effects look real,I must say, especially the mouth cancer. Eerie isn't it!)
-So now again,we'll have to wait for another statistics to see whether a more aggressive approach should be thought of and executed in two years time. That is,as if the currents are not serious enough. I mean, raising the price of cigarettes is something to look forward to,but again, the result is just a mere descend in the number of smokers.
-Fathers,continuous smoking habit does not only put yourselves in danger,it also risks your families.
-Mothers,smoking harms your beloved children and fetus, you do know..
-Sisters,smoking does not add to your grace but it made you lose one part of your dignity among folks and males,
-And brothers, smoking does not make you look more masculine to the girls.

Then why are there still smokers around us when the final results are not only less welcoming-they can also be very dangerous,I mean poisonous, and hazardous and...
fatal?
Haish...if you are a smoker do get yourself a doctor for an undoubtedly useful consultation session,or a medication to help curb the habit and start living healthy and happily away from the risks of worthless death. If you are not, alhamdulillah and perhaps, you would not want your friends to be smokers too.
If you have something to say, please,at your ease! : )
(It was my own pleasure plus my dear cousin,Pejai's request to put this in. We thought that this would be a good thing to share. The debate served as a splendid brainstorm session as it would for an evening chat.)
For Pejai who had just been called for 2010 PDRM recruit intake,I believe that you will do good there in Johor for your training. How I'd love to see you in blue uniform..musti betambah, tambah ensem lagi...! May Allah protect you and bless your way to success, cousin!
Great day to ya!
