Today, oh I mean yesterday, could be in the 'most terrifying days of the year' list. Two assignments needed to be handed in on the same day-and of course it shouldn't have been a nuisance if both have got equal share of attention rather than one only-but above all the end of the day turned great.
A guest lecturer came for EDUC 258-that's Maths in Schools subject-today. The first thing I said to Amira (an Egyptian-Australian girl who sat next to me) was; do you think that guy in black shirt is a lecturer?
I thought that he was a technician. Turned out that I was wrong.
Whatever his name could be, he most probably (the way yesterday) is one of the best teachers I've had. His greetings was "Maths isn't about numbers!" in a very unique, masculine Aussie slang like that of Katy Perry's hubby. And he kicked it off with continuous exhibition of Mathematical wonders; those of which actually are but patterns, that our brains synthesise but given too little attention to be accepted as true.
Well all his points were, summarising it up-that Maths is what happens in the mind, while what we write on papers are just symbols to show that we've been doing Maths in our heads. And to me they're patterns, thousands of patterns, waiting to be discovered.
Maths is magical, he made it look so. Amira got a photo of him in her IPhone at the very last minute of lecture, while I was busy still, trying to make sense of every wonder out of the dozen whole he just blurted out.
Awh if only we teachers can make people fall in love, like he did us. :)
Have a glance of it on tumblr 'ere.
